THE BEGINNING

This all started in a closet in Ocean Beach, San Diego.. No, really. Max was making substrate blocks out of a home lab and fruiting oyster mushrooms in a makeshift grow closet. After outgrowing the closet, the passion project graduated to the garage. A whiteboard was filled with potential names, and Golden Mushroom Co. was chosen. Max got his permits, and was able to sell his mushrooms to the public.

02

MUSHROOMS FOR THE PEOPLE!

Golden became a vendor at the beloved Ocean Beach Farmer's Market. Multiple exotic species of mushrooms were grown FIVE BLOCKS away, harvested same day, and brought directly to market. Today, this is still Golden's flagship market. This was a wonderful start, but something was missing. Max had fallen in love with the process of growing, and that wanted to be shared.

03

A prototype was formed

With previous experience as a screenprinter, Max designed a cardboard box with Golden's branding, and put a substrate block in it. These were sold at the markets. People could cut their block open, and grow mushrooms theirselves at home.

04

GROW YOUR OWN!

Today, Golden's grow kits are in stores across the nation. Look at this kit as Mushroom Growing 101. Max caught the bug for mushroom obsession. Capturing that feeling and sharing it is what this entire project embodies.
